This is just a note to anyone that is interested. A new version of GIMPShop
- that's The GIMP with a more Photoshop-like interface - is available for
Windows.
I have links on my site - http://www.gimpshop.net/ - the download link is on
the front page, and every other page for that matter.
or you can visit Dakira's blog (the compiler of GIMPShop for windows) -
http://blog.yumdap.net/
or Scott's blog (the hacker of GIMPShop) - http://www.plasticbugs.com/
For those who are just toying around with the GIMP as an alternative to the
uberexpensive Photoshop, GIMPShop is the way to go. Because it's so much
like Photoshop, most documentation that's out there for Photoshop (like
How-Tos, Tutorials, design-guides, etc.) will apply to GIMPShop. And if
you've been trained on Photoshop, then GIMPShop will be a ton more familiar
and therefore easier to use than the GIMP.
If you've never touched Photoshop, or if you've always used the GIMP -
GIMPShop won't help you much (except, again, with far more documentation
than the GIMP).
GIMPShop is made directly from The GIMP's sourcecode (with hacked menus by
Scott) - so it's just as powerful as the GIMP is, and all of the plugins for
GIMP should work the same.
There are also links on my site to the latest versions of GIMPShop for Mac,
Linux, and Solaris, and the GIMPShop source. Windows is currently the only
binary I know of that is based on Scott's latest hacked code. So if anyone
wants to compile some binaries - please let me know.
Happy GIMPing!
- Chad Smith
